Search for Self, formerly Mars & Venus Counseling Center, is a family-led group practice of experienced, independently licensed clinicians caring for adults, adolescents, children, couples, and families across Bergen County and Northern New Jersey. Each of our therapists specializes in different areas and brings a style of their own, so we can thoughtfully match you with the clinician best suited to your needs, your goals, and your stage of life.

Search for Self was founded by Richard Drobnick, LCSW, DCSW and Morrisa Drobnick, LCSW, married more than 40 years and both trained at New York University. Richard, who has served Bergen County for over 40 years, is our clinical director for adult, couples, and marriage counseling. Morrisa, with more than 35 years of experience, leads our work with children, adolescents, and grief and bereavement. Both are widely regarded as among the most experienced and respected counselors in the county. They live in Bergen County and have two grown daughters, Silver and Selena, Silver now serves as our Associate Director.

Our story began with the founding of Bergen County’s first full-service Mars & Venus Counseling Center, where Richard was personally trained and licensed by Dr. John Gray, the best-selling author of Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus. That grounding in relationship-centered care still shapes how we work today. Over four decades, we’ve grown well beyond those origins, studying and integrating the approaches of many leaders across individual, couples, family, child and adolescent, and grief and bereavement therapy, into the whole-person practice we are now. The name has evolved to reflect that breadth, but the people, the experience, and the standard of care remain the same.
